Out of the cloud: Vrije Universiteit and Vrije Universiteit Medical Center choose tick@lab for their central animal facility

Amsterdam, NL/ Darmstadt - Nov 05, 2012

a-tune software AG provides innovative data management solutions for research organizations. Today, the company announced that Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU) and Vrije Universiteit Medical Center (VUmc) have chosen the a-tune tick@lab software platform for the management of its lab animal facilities and will use the software as a Cloud Solution.

tick@lab will be supporting all operational and compliance related processes of the animal facilities at the university and the hospital.

The new tick@lab cloud service enables the organization to take full advantage of the functionality of the tick@lab software, without the need for an internal IT infrastructure.

“Our services for research support include the care of many different species, such as mice, rats, fish and also larger animals including rabbits, goats and pigs. Therefore, we had to look for software which can do much more than just supporting transgenic breeding. With tick@lab we found an integrated solution which helps us to optimize our support for the researchers, ensuring compliance and reducing internal efforts for documentation, reporting and communication. For sure another plus is a-tune’s cloud service offer. It’s a great advantage that our staff and our researchers can securely access our central management platform from the desk, the animal room or any other location using their favorite device such as an iPad or laptop. The fact that there is no need for an internal IT infrastructure is not only a great cost advantage, but it is also fully aligned with the IT strategy of the university.”, explains Dr. Ben Otto, Director of the Universitair Proefdier Centrum (UPC), the animal facility of VU and VUmc.

“tick@lab is now available as a cloud solution with a ‘zero-infrastructure footprint’ and we are delighted to welcome VU and VUmc as the first customer taking advantage of the new possibilities,” says Andreas Staubi, CEO of a-tune software AG. “Using the cloud technology and computing power of a major global provider we can provide tick@lab as a fast, secure and reliable service – anywhere in the world – and in many cases far below the costs of an internal IT infrastructure. We are expecting that more and more organizations will opt for this approach in the future.”

tick@lab is the software platform from a-tune software AG designed for the management of lab animal facilities. It covers all stages of a research project, from the drafting and examination of applications and notifications to the ordering of animals, stock management, and breeding protocols. Crucially, the software also provides the documentation for the project, and enables users to retrieve reports and statistics as required by law.

Thanks to its flexible architecture and the consistent use of web technology, tick@lab can easily be adapted to meet specific requirements. The software can be used on any terminal device (PC, notebook, iPad, tablet computer) with a web browser.
